Boaties sailing close to the wind
Shaun Hollis. One third of South Australian boats checked by marine authorities across the summer did not comply with safety regulations, seemingly throwing caution to the wind. Marine Safety SA conducted close to 2200 checks across the state in December, January and February, including more than 400 in Yorke Peninsula coastal waters.
Ramsey to call it quits
Following six election victories, nine years in government and countless hours driving around Australia’s third-biggest electorate, Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has announced he will retire at the next election ... Mark’s artwork soars to new heights

A decorated RAAF officer who commissioned a painting to commemorate the moment which inspired his naming of the iconic Boeing E-7A Wedgetail defence force aeroplane said he could not be happier with the result. The painting, by Minlaton artist Mark Short, depicts a wedge-tailed eagle taking flight.

Coming to the rescue
Shaun Hollis. There have been more than 5700 surf rescues recorded across the nation since the start of summer, but there are no records for Yorke Peninsula. Statistics for drowning rescues on the peninsula are not known because there are no surf lifesaving clubs ... One group which does rescue people who get into trouble in the powerful surf of Berry Bay is the Yorkes Junior Surf Club...
Plea to leave dolphin alone
Michelle Daw. Concerned members of the public have called on Barunga West Council and the state government to take action to help protect a lone dolphin from interactions with people. There are reports some people have interfered with the dolphin, which has been seen along the Port Broughton foreshore.
Three stars for Upper Yorke Road
Michelle Daw. Tens of millions of dollars will be spent upgrading Upper Yorke Road, following a determined five-year campaign by locals ... Member for Narungga Fraser Ellis hailed the announcement as a tremendous boost for YP’s road network.

Day of the outages

Several Wool Bay residents were frustrated by more than 30 momentary power outages ... which reportedly damaged appliances, adding to a steady stream of blackouts for the small township over multiple years ... Wallaroo Hospital security extended, under review
Sarah Herrmann. Wallaroo Hospital’s full-time security measures have been extended until May while an external review to determine future protocol is completed. The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation campaigned for better security at the site after a man smashed through two sets of entry doors and attacked the back of an ambulance at the hospital in February 2023.
