YP health services risk ‘collapse’ – union
Yorke Peninsula hospitals are on the brink of a collapse of services, according to the nurses and midwives’ union, which is calling on residents to support its statewide campaign to counteract staff shortages in regional hospitals.

Gold medal quest begins
Will Hunter. More than 1000 competitors will be hoping to take home the chocolates from the Copper Coast 2024 SA Masters Games this Thursday to Sunday, April 11 to 14. It is the third time in four years the Copper Coast has hosted the games, and venues across Kadina, Wallaroo and Moonta will host a total 20 sports.
Breaking national price rise records

Combined, the Yorke Peninsula, Barossa and Mid North regions have recorded the largest annual home price rise of any regional area in Australia in the past year, new data has revealed ... Housing Industry Association SA regional director Stephen Knight said home affordability and availability are two of the state’s most critical challenges.
Driving doctors to train in regional posts

Yorke and Northern Local Health Network has announced its new Rural Doctors Program, which offers medical graduates three-to-five-year training contracts in the region, with the aim to empower junior doctors to became rural generalists. YNLHN executive director of medical services Hendrika Meyer said the network is making a long-term investment to grow its medical workforce by allowing junior doctors to train in the country earlier in their careers and to complete their entire training in the region.

Voice reps elected
South Australia’s inaugural First Nations Voice to Parliament elections have been finalised after Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders took to the polls ... Voting was voluntary and only open to the state’s First Nations population ... There were 129 formal votes cast for the local candidates, the last elected member achieving the position with six first preference votes.
Power goes out with Easter

Moonta was hit by a particularly unfortunate power outage on Easter Monday ... while a large part of northern Yorke Peninsula was also off the grid ... with small hospitality businesses taking a hit ... Pasky Grab & Go Deli owner Sheree Moroney said the outage created ‘absolute chaos’ for her business.
Millions for local jetties

Six Yorke Peninsula jetties ear-marked for repairs have been allocated a combined $4.18 million — the most of any region in the state — from the South Australian Government’s Jetties Renewal Program ... Within YPC’s pool of jetties, 85 per cent of piles in the Edithburgh jetty and 62 per cent in Ardrossan jetty are rated as having less than 25 per cent life left, while the Port Vincent Fisherman’s jetty collapsed into the water last year. YPC mayor Darren Braund reiterated how important jetties are to the appeal of the region.
