Rachel Hagan. Arthurton’s first ever lawn mower race day was a massive hit for the Yorke Peninsula with more than 1000 people attending the inaugural event. About 40 competitors, from all over the state, made their way to Arthurton on weekend for the South Australian Lawn Mower Racing Association (SALMRA) and Arthurton Progress Association event.

Michelle Daw. A single 107-hectare paddock in prime cropping land near Maitland sold for $4.75 million last week, setting what is likely to be a record price for Yorke Peninsula. The price achieved for Lot 210, Pine Point Road at an online auction on Monday, September 9, equates to $44,393 per hectare, or $17,992 per acre.

Wallaroo welcomed sand drags for the first time on the weekend after Copper Coast Motorsports sand drags track opening earlier this month ... attracted more than 1500 spectators and 70 entrants over the two days, with event organisers saying the meeting was a major economic boost for Yorke Peninsula.

Since 1966, Scotch College has had a licence agreement with the Department for Environment and Water which has allowed them to use Mayibarrdu/Goose Island for immersive outdoor camp experiences ... Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation chief executive Doug Milera said the board was thrilled the island was returning to the Narungga people, who plan to open it up for everyone to use and visit.

Yorke Peninsula Prostate Cancer Support Group leader Robert Kidd knows first-hand how secretive some men can be about diagnosis, after his own father kept his troubles with the disease to himself.

Joanna Tucker. After years of hard work, the Moonta Mines Cornish mining sites have been added to Australia’s UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, along with mine sites at Burra. This listing was announced on September 6 and is a significant step towards achieving World Heritage protection for the two historic areas.
