Festival frenzy returns in 2025

The Riverland Food & Wine Festival is back to take over the Berri riverfront this March, with the revamped event preparing to showcase the best local produce, wine, and entertainment. With a focus on local wine and cuisine, sustainability, and safety, the classic event has been reimagined for the Riverland community since it was last held in the region six years ago.

First Nations guide for Riverland floodplains

Madison Eastmond. The Department for Environment and Water (DEW) have collaborated with First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region (FPRMMR) to develop a field guide on the plants and cultural significance of Riverland floodplains.

It’s back to back delight for Codi and Doug

For the second consecutive year, Kodi Morena and Douglas Mowbray are the kings of the Riverland Dinghy Derby. In sweltering conditions, the duo claimed a tight victory in Sunday’s prestigious event, racing through the course in 1:10:23, almost six seconds clear of runners-up Scott Pogorecki and Nathan Wilson, while Andrew Kelckhoven and Ace Pratt rounded out the top three.

Staying safe in the sun

Hugh Schuitemaker. SAPOL last weekend issued a warning for locals and visitors to the Riverland regarding river safety, ahead of the Dash 4 Cash and Dinghy Derby events that were held in Renmark. The warning came following a number of recent incidents on the Murray River, including the hospitalisation of a swimmer who was struck by a boat, near Mannum, on 28 January.

Riverland grapes at risk during vintage as heatwave continues… Dry whites and dry reds

Hugh Schuitemaker. Current forecasted temperatures for the Riverland are set to remain above at least 37C until Tuesday, with a high of 41 set for tomorrow. Renmark-based Angove Family Winemakers chief winemaker Tony Ingle said the excessive heat could cause grapes on vines to appear ready for harvest without the necessary character development for quality wine.

Hay run makes Renmark stop

Renmark provided a rest stop for more than 50 trucks carrying hay to help South Australian farmers impacted by drought. A convoy of trucks carrying hay to be donated to drought-affected farmers, through organisation Aussie Hay Runners with support of the State Government, last Saturday passed through Renmark.

Wendy’s netball legacy earns an OAM

Berri woman Wendy Gambling has been recognised for a lifetime of service to Riverland netball, with her commitment to the sport and its players as an administrator and volunteer earning her a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) as part of the 2025 Australia Day Honours.
