Big country hoedown brings line dancers to town
Narrandera hosted the Annual Big Country Hoedown Line Dance Competitions recently at the Narrandera Ex-servicemen’s Club, which is one of the event’s major sponsors since it transferred to Narrandera in 2017. These annual events started off with a fabulous Welcome Social at the Exies.
Lockhart Picnics make grand return
Lockhart Picnic Races made a return to racing after a three year hiatus with horses once again gracing the track last week. Racegoers gathered from as far as Melbourne to attend the event with around 1000 people filling the venue.
Council puts case for a special rate variation
General Manager George Cowan highlighted issues around the council’s financial position at last week’s Council meeting and sought a resolution to proceed to community consultation on a potential application for a proposed permanent Special Variation (SV) ... representing a cumulative Special Variation of 48.1 per cent over two years. Basis for rate variation explained
A report presented to the Narrandera Shire Council last week provided a detailed analysis of Council’s current and long-term financial position and outlined drivers for those outcomes. It was tabled together with the recommendation for a rate variation application that will now go to the ratepayers of the shire for consideration. The report identified implications for service levels and impact on residents.
Fireworks and celebrations mark 150 years of public education
Narrandera Public School held some spectacular events to celebrate their 150-year anniversary last week. The events attracted over 1000 people across the two days with a concert held on the Thursday followed by an open evening on Friday and finishing off with a fireworks display at the Marie Bashir Park that night.
Council flags big rates hike
Ratepayers would face a rates increase of more than 48 per cent under a proposal put to Narrandera Shire Council at a meeting this week. During the September council meeting, it was recommended that the council make an application to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) for the implementation of a Special Variation (SV) begin in the 2024/25 financial year.
Mayor re-elected and new deputy chosen
Narrandera Shire Council has re-elected its Mayor Neville Kschenka but elected a new deputy to replace Cr Cameron Lander at its meeting on Tuesday afternoon … A ballot was conducted for the deputy mayor and resulted in a tie 4-all so the hat was brought out and Cr Sue Ruffles was declared the successful candidate.
Decider draws $25K at gate
Despite less teams being involved in the Riverina Football League grand final at Narrandera Sportsground on Saturday the gate was up $4000 on last year. The crowd paid $25,378 at the gate to watch Turvey Park win their first senior premiership in 21 years.
