Argentinian dishes proving popular in Narrandera

A delay in starting employment has resulted in an Argentinian woman now living in Narrandera turning her hand to cooking familiar South American delicacies to tantalise the taste buds of Narrandera locals. Lourdes Hurt from Cordoba came to Australia two years ago and arrived in Narrandera two months ago in readiness to take up employment at Avonlie Solar Farm.

Memorial to honour Empire Training Scheme officially opened

The official opening of the Empire Air Training Scheme Memorial at Wagga's RAAF Base took place at Wagga last week, conjuring up many memories for towns like Narrandera which were part of this scheme. Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack helped to officially open the memorial project.

A butcher’s shop in Lockhart has earned the proud accolade of making the best sausages in the Riverina and it has an award to prove it. Lockhart Gourmet Meats has made a clean sweep in the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) Sausage King, Best Butcher's Burger and Smallgoods competition ... Milestone reached by Healthy Kids bus stop

The award-winning developmental screening program Healthy Kids Bus Stop makes regular visits to Murrumbidgee Local Health District and last week reached a major milestone, with the 1000th child screened in the District since visits began in 2015. The Healthy Kids Bus Stop aims to improve the health and wellbeing of children aged three to five years living in rural and remote communities through early detection of lifestyle risk factors, delayed development and/or illness.

Calls for council grants overhaul

Local Government NSW believes it is time to clean up council grant funding to make it predictable, transparent, fair and ethical. The peak body was responding to a NSW Parliamentary inquiry which found the State Government operated a “brazen pork barrel scheme” and played party politics with $252 million of taxpayers’ money.

Art and history combined in unique exhibition

Murrami woman Dorothy Roddy is June’s Artist of the Month ... Documenting the history of the Riverina Welfare Farm for Boys and the POW Camp 15 eras between 1928 and 1947 at what is now Yanco Agricultural Institute, the exhibition features 12 oil paintings which should appeal to art lovers as well as history buffs.

Statewide blitz results in Darlington Point arrest

Police arrested 45 people, seized eight firearms, a hydraulic press and more than 20kg of MDMA and other prohibited drugs during statewide raids targeting organised crime under Operation Hawk last week ... Police located and seized 1.2kg of cannabis, more than $30,000 cash, ammunition, mobile phones, prohibited weapons and a safe. Inquiries are continuing and charges are expected to be laid.
