Crops – fire warning

A safety reminder from the CFA to farmers during harvest to ensure machinery such as headers are regularly inspected and maintained, and moving parts such as bearings are cleaned of any material on hot engine components. After heavy rains, there is extra growth around that makes the chance of fires highly likely.

Exhibition with local connection

Here’s an interesting exhibition being held in Williamstown from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 December which will be of interest to people living in the local area: it’s a curated range of rare wallpapers from the personal collection of former Castlemaine resident Phyllis Murphy ... Some of the wallpapers date back to the mid-19th century.

Hat trick for Labor

Bendigo West MP Maree Edwards has been elected for a fourth term with a comfortable majority ... Back in 2010, when Ms Edwards was first elected, Bendigo West was considered to be a marginal seat. “It’s now one of the safest seats,” she said. “On Sunday morning, it was the ninth safest seat in Victoria; this figure may very well change as counting continues.”

Covid case stats

In the past three months, 3,200 Covid patients were hospitalised in Victoria. 41.9 per cent of those patients had not received their third vaccine dose. 961 (30 per cent) were unvaccinated; 27 had received one dose, 352 had two doses, 769 had received three doses, and 1,091 had received four doses.

2022 has been a busy year for the staff and volunteers of the Victorian Goldfields Railway. In addition to operating trains every Wednesday and Sunday throughout the year, 2022 has seen a very popular program of special trains operated, including Murder on the Orient Express Driver Experiences and the ever-popular Ales on Rails trains.
