Nhill local pens book on football, mateship and mayhem

Nhill's Wayne Batson has turned his passion for football and storytelling into a newly published book, The Ring-Ins. The comedy follows a ragtag group of ageing footballers who decide to drag themselves off the couch and back onto the field.

At the last home game for the season, the Nhill & District Sporting Club hosted the 2025 Amy Pilgrim Memorial Round. Held in front of a strong home crowd, the event honoured Amy's lasting legacy in the club and community.

A “Cannonball Run” through Nhill

John Williams. Nhill was the halfway marker for outlandish speed records set in the 1950's by car drivers who took enormous risks. Risk of death and risk of arrest, but all survived. The test was who could drive from Melbourne to Adelaide in the fastest time in highly illegal speed runs on the Western and Dukes Highways, which at the time were rubbish roads.

Scars of Fire

Check out the powerful exhibition Scars of Fire by photographer Liam Cuce, now showing at the Purple Starfish in Kaniva. With ancestral ties to Kaniva dating back to the 1800s, Liam returned not to retrace old footsteps but to document the impact of the present.

It was a busy weekend for members of the Rotary Club of Nhill and the A&P Society with 107 cars and 350 crew from the Variety Bash visiting Nhill. The Rotary Club has been communicating and planning with event organisers for the past few months in readiness for the arrival of the 'Bash'.

The team from Glendonald and Orrie Cowie had an exceptional few days at the 2025 Australian Sheep & Wool Show in Bendigo, showcasing the strength and consistency of their breeding programs. A combined 34 sheep were taken to the event between Glendonald and Orrie Cowie, contributing to both the show and sale with sheep that were well-prepared and highly competitive.
