Kidney-leaf mud plantain (Heteranthera reniformis) is an aquatic weed that was brought to Australia as a decorative pond plant. It has since washed into our freshwater waterways where it slows the movement of water, impedes the growth of native water plants, and reduces the food supply for aquatic life.
Female footballers hit the target
More than half of Dunoon United FC’s footballers this season are female - and it’s believed this is first time any club in the region has achieved the feat. "After years of pushing female participation we’ve finally broken the 50 per cent barrier," said club president Simon Webster.

WIRES welcomes new emergency responder and native wildlife ambulance
WIRES Northern Rivers is delighted to welcome newly appointed Emergency Response Team (ERT) member and ambulance driver Tarn Donaldson and the arrival of a dedicated native wildlife rescue ambulance. Ms Donaldson and the new fully equipped ambulance will be providing local rescue support across WIRES Northern Rivers and Clarence Valley branches and be on-call to attend critical and/ or unresolved rescues reported to WIRES 24/7 Rescue Office.

Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital proposed $12 million wildlife plan for Northern Rivers
An innovative regional wildlife care plan has been launched by Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital chair Ninian Gemmell, seeking an extra $6 million for a region-wide strategy. The 10-point plan aims to support all organisations involved in local wildlife care, recognising the vital roles played by the Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital, Friends of the Koala Hospital and Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
Not for profit organisations secure funding to rebuild fences for flood-affected farmers
Volunteer-based not-for-profit organisations have received vital support through the Early Needs Recovery Program to help re-build, repair and clear fences in flood-affected areas ...
