Victorian raiders were the star turn at the Narrandera Race Club’s race meeting on Saturday with Wangaratta-based trainers winning four of the seven races on the card.

Jockey Alice Kennedy saluted the judge in the second race with Lightning Lizard ($4) for Wangaratta trainer Ben Brisbourne.

The Lightning Lizard was the Country Punter best bet on the club’s Facebook page and identified the lizard connection with Narrandera.

An apprentice, Kennedy brought up her first-ever double with the Dan McCarthy-trained Black Adam in the Murrumbidgee Property Agents LW Peacock Memorial race, run over 1200 metres.

Narrandera Race Club’s Racing Manager Michael Bailey said the race meeting which produced some “excellent racing” took place on a beautiful winter’s day with the sun shining.

“It showcased the fantastic facility that all our volunteers had in pristine condition,” Bailey said.

“The original program had six races, but was split to make a seventh due to the high acceptance numbers.

“There were 163 nominations and 109 acceptances with 81 starters out of possible 84.

“There were five bookmakers on course and our new PA and television were tested out in full.”

The meeting started in fine style with jockey Alysha Warren riding Hillbilly Kynection ($16) to victory for Wangaratta trainer Jeffrey Kyne in a close finish in the opening race on the card.

Wagga trainer Doug Gorrel’s entry Adasiti ($4.60), ridden by John Kissick, won the third race.

Only one of two favourites winning on the day, Nick Heyward guided Jingu Express ($2.05) to victory in the fourth race for Wangaratta trainer Andrew Dale.

Trainer Gary Colvin and jockey Josh Richards combined with Freddy’s Shock ($6.50) to win the fifth event.

Orange-based trainer Melissa Harrison’s favourite, Bobby’s Secret ($5.50), won the sixth race with Pierre Boudvillain in the saddle.

Bailey said the members draw of $500 was not claimed by Paul Foley and will jackpot to $1000 on Narrandera Cup day and it’s not too late to become a member for $10 for a chance to win and show support for the club.
