25 years in local government
This week marked the 25th anniversary of Councillor Carol Taylor holding public office between the Cambooya Shire Council and Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC). Cr Taylor was elected as a Cambooya Shire Division 4 Councillor alongside Maxwell Middleton on 25 March 2000.
National rally moves to FarmFest site
The 19th National Heritage Machinery Rally, to be held from 23 to 25 August 2025, has been moved from the Jondaryan Woolshed to Kingsthorpe Park, the home of FarmFest. This year's Steaming Under the Southern Cross event, taking place from 25 to 31 August, will incorporate the National Historical Machinery Association's rally.

Robot arrives at Toowoomba Hospital
Darling Downs Health patients requiring joint replacements will benefit from the arrival of the MAKO robot that uses 3D CT-based surgical planning to help orthopaedic surgeons complete joint replacements in a more accurate and precise manner ... Varroa mite detected in Lockyer Valley
Biosecurity Queensland is advising of the preliminary identification of varroa mite (Varroa destructor) for the first time in Queensland, in the Lockyer Valley. Initial samples from a recreational apiary in the Lockyer Valley have returned a positive diagnostic result for Varroa destructor.
Darling Downs koala survey sheds light
A review of the Darling Downs 2024 Koala Population Study was recently held in Pittsworth and revealed three separate koala 'clusters' on the Downs identified through DNA testing of scat samples. A total of 91 out of 104 samples collected over an eight month period were used as part of the study.
