Art for all in August
Whimsical works by Copper Coast artists Julie Cheshire and Claudia Bollmeyer will be among a feast of art on display in August for the annual South Australian Living Artists festival. Their joint exhibition at Kadina’s Ascot Theatre is one of five to be held on Yorke Peninsula during the festival.
Ellis and DPP both launch appeals Â
Narugga MP Fraser Ellis says he was prepared to accept his guilty verdicts, until the Director of Public Prosecutions launched an appeal against all charges he was acquitted of earlier this month. On July 1, Mr Ellis was found guilty on four charges of deception in regard to misusing the state Country Members Accommodation Allowance (CMAA), which he has now appealed after the DPP’s decision to appeal against another 19 charges he had been acquitted of ... "I feel as though I have been singled out of a group of Members of Parliament who made similar errors."

Health pressure rises
Joanna Tucker. With Yorke Peninsula’s population expected to increase by up to 10,000 in the next decade, and more than 500 homes expected to be built on the Copper Coast in coming years, calls for a serious upgrade of the region’s health-care system have strengthened. Hundreds of residents are currently travelling to Adelaide regularly to access health care and with the region’s biggest hospital at Wallaroo offering only 21 beds…
Surviving shark attacks Â
Surfers are calling for improved safety at Yorke Peninsula beaches to help limit the number of shark fatalities. The push comes after Elliston Council on Eyre Peninsula installed shark bite first-aid kits at four popular beaches following several attacks last year, including two fatal ones, in the region.
Not just tall tails
Whales have been dropping into Yorke Peninsula waters in the past month seemingly unbeknown to authorities. There have been no reports to the state’s dedicated whale-watch page of the huge mammals in the YP region so far this whale season — which starts in May and goes to October — despite at least two confirmed sightings locally. Kick in the guts
Michelle Daw. Yorke Peninsula commercial fishers say they are being discriminated against by a new fees regime that took effect this month, which has been described as a "kick in the guts" that could send them out of business. The fees are based on a quota system aimed at making fishers pay the full cost of government management for King George whiting, garfish and calamari, in Gulf St Vincent and Spencer Gulf only.
Spiritual cleansing for  Wallaroo Hospital
Sarah Herrmann. An Aboriginal traditional healer has performed a spiritual cleansing at Wallaroo Hospital after Indigenous patients reported feeling uncomfortable while receiving health services there. The Yorke and Northern Local Health Network invited traditional healer, or Ngangkari, Debbie Watson, from the APY Lands in northern South Australia, to help cleanse Wallaroo Hospital and the Wallaroo Community Health Building last week.
