Sarah Herrmann. An Ardrossan commercial fisherman gave state government representatives a piece of his mind at a government-run algal bloom community forum in Minlaton last week, criticising their grant eligibility criteria and calling for action on fish stocks.
Copper Coast Show: vibrant and community driven
Copper Coast Show chair Natasha Westbrook says the 2025 event was one of the most vibrant and community-driven the committee has seen in years, with record crowds, incredible participation, and all run by volunteers. The show was held over the weekend, August 16 and 17, and the Schools Livestock Day on Friday, August 15, had seven schools and 135 students participating with cattle, goats and sheep.

Back to the future for MP
Sarah Herrmann. Independent Narungga MP Fraser Ellis says he has been approached by the Liberal Party to rejoin their ranks at the upcoming state election ... In October 2021, Mr Ellis sought the Liberals' endorsement to run as a candidate for Narungga in the 2022 state election, but they declined and ran an endorsed candidate against him. Mr Ellis was successful as an independent.
Museums could close
Yorke Peninsula National Trust of South Australia branches are refusing to pay a new fee which would take 10 per cent of their gross annual revenue, warning the move could force museums to close. Of the several YP branches protesting, the Moonta branch — one of the NTSA's largest — is facing a $47,365 fee, which chair Graham Hancock has called unfair.
GROUNDED Festival set to ignite Yorkes
Yorke Peninsula will come alive from August 15 to 24 when the GROUNDED YP Art Festival returns with more than 30 workshops, performances, events and exhibitions across the region ... Uncertainty prevails despite algae grants
Sarah Herrmann. Small businesses have expressed concerns about long-term financial assistance after eligibility criteria for the $10,000 algal bloom grants were revealed last week. Pubs are one of the businesses not eligible, but Dalrymple Hotel, Stansbury, publican Rob Rankine said, even if they were, there were other hurdles businesses had to jump to get compensation.
Conservation and art brings tourists
Rachel Hagan. Price Progress Association is looking to put Price on the map with local art to help encourage more tourists to stop by the town on their visit to Yorke Peninsula. Located at the top of the peninsula, Price is in a prime position for those traveling from the east of the state to stop and take a break before driving down to their YP destination.
Countdown to official opening of Vietnam War Memorial Walk

A casual coffee catch-up between Roger Hogben and John Edwards turned into something more lasting when the pair began discussing the day’s headline — the 50th anniversary of Australia’s withdrawal from the Vietnam War. From that conversation, the idea for a Vietnam War Memorial Walk between Edithburgh and Coobowie was born.
