Local politicians say satellite-mapping plan for frost damage is missing the mark

A State Government plan to utilise satellite imagery in assessing frost damage to Riverland grape vines has "missed the mark" for growers needing support, according to senior local politicians ... Chaffey MP Tim Whetstone said local industry representatives had completed satellite imagery of frost-damaged areas.
‘Show week’ held at Riverview in Loxton
Sebastian Calderon. A local nursing home recently organised a week of arts, crafts, and creative activities aimed to put smiles on the faces of its residents. The Riverview Lutheran Rest Home in Loxton held a ‘show week’ with residents and visitors enjoying activities organised to boost the mood and happiness of everyone involved.

Sebastian Calderon. Increases in attendance and number of exhibitors were among the highlights from a successful 104th edition of the Loxton Show. More than 8000 people walked through the gates to experience the two-day event held over the long weekend, food and market stalls and a range of competition entries on display.

Senior Riverland politicians have urged local irrigators to avoid signing up for the Federal Government’s latest expression of interest for water buybacks. The Federal Government last week opened the Restoring Our Rivers 2024: Expression of Interest 2 (Large Portfolios of Water Southern Connected Basin), allowing for water buybacks from Riverland communities.
Calperum Station restores hope and employment in the Riverland

Calperum Station’s Flood Recovery program is boosting local employment and changing the lives of many Riverlanders in the process ... the four-month voluntary program at Calperum Station has expanded to a comprehensive skills and confidence-building initiative for local jobseekers, restoring habitat and community in the towns of Renmark and Berri, and producing two rounds of successful graduates since its inception.
Owen’s houses nine years in the making
Madison Eastmond. Barmera craftsman Owen Cash was able to finally lay down his hammer and paintbrush on a nine-year project of three doll houses last month. Hoping the identical houses now become family heirlooms, Mr Cash began the venture in 2015 for each of his granddaughters, Shelley, Jessie, and Lainie, who are now 19, 17, and 12.
Groundwater reserves being examined for irrigation
Sebastian Calderon. An innovative project based in the Riverland is aiming to improve the potential use and benefits of groundwater. Last month, a small reverse-osmosis (RO) plant was installed on Century Orchards, in Loxton, with the objective of identifying different pathways to diversify water sources and relieve resource pressure on the Murray River.
