Ginning ends – Successful season for AFF gin
The 2024 ginning season came to an end last week at the Australian Food and Fibre (AFF) gin south of Hay. The ginning season ran for five months and processed 45,000 round modules into 199,000 finished bales, making 2024 one of the Hay gin’s biggest runs ... “Prices are down a little, but yields are well up.”
$15,550 paid for top Woodpark Poll ram
Woodpark Poll Merinos enjoyed a full clearance at their annual ram sale September 23. For the first time in two decades the Huggins family sale was held at Conargo Sports Ground, after traditionally selling at Jerilderie. All 150 rams on offer sold to an average of $3,110. The top price of $15,550 for Woodpark Poll 23-404, was paid by Grassy Creek Merinos, Reids Flat.
New Farrer candidate promises to be present in community
After being announced as the Voices of Farrer endorsed candidate Michelle Milthorpe officially launched her campaign for the federal seat. At a gathering in her home town of Jindera last Wednesday, Ms Milthorpe said she was ‘thrilled’ to announce her candidacy.

Magpies take historic win
Hay Magpies won Sunday’s Group 20 women’s tackle grand final, to secure their place in history as the first premiership team of the competition, and the first women’s tackle team from Hay to win a cup. After losing to Tullibidgeal Lakes United (TLU) Sharks in the first week of the finals, Hay caused an upset in the semis, beating Griffith Black and Whites to book the grand final berth.

AFA offloads iconic farms
Australian Food and Agriculture (AFA) has sold its 225,000 hectares of sheep, cattle, and cropping lands in the districts of Deniliquin, Hay, and Coonamble, including iconic Australian Merino sheep stations Boonoke and Wanganella ... The buyers have been revealed as a group of investors, including Bert Glover, founder of the Australian and US-owned specialist agricultural investment and development firm Impact Ag Partners…

On the day he arrived in Hay, the strong September winds and a flat tyre had delayed his arrival from Balranald by several hours ...
