For a small town, they sure can put on a big show. A new initiative has seen an award winning indie folk duo take to the stage in Leitchville for their first and only performance in northern Victoria – and there’s more to come. Saije, an indie folk duo from Bellingen in New South Wales, came to Leitchville off the back of an extensive European tour.

23-year-old Karim was born in Grenada, an island in the West Indies, but moved to London at an early age. He has the unique opportunity of splitting his time between England and the Caribbean, spending six months in each and playing cricket in both countries.

At the beginning of October, two ‘international’ cricketers arrived in Cohuna to spend the season playing for Nondies Cohuna Cricket Club. Archie Sussex and Karim Marcelle have both come from the UK and are settling into our little patch nicely.

The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay had a local touch when Cohuna’s Geoff Hall was chosen to be one of 1,500 torch bearers to participate in the 50,000km 6-month journey. The relay commemorates Legacy’s centenary and recognises the sacrifices of families and the efforts of volunteers who have provided support in that time.

When Respect Cohuna Village resident, Robin Wilkinson, mentioned she would love to fly a plane, staff at the village ‘flew’ into action and before she knew it, the 84-year-old was flying high above the town she now calls home … “They offered me a trip to go on a joy flight, and I jumped to it,” said Robin...

The Gunbower Racing Club’s annual race day was held on Saturday, but in yet another blow to the club, the 45ml of rain received ... saw all horse racing cancelled ...the club went ahead with all planned off-track events and was blown away by the support of the almost 2,000 people who still attended ... “Our track was in beautiful condition, and that’s what made it so hard."

Zoli Myers is no backyard dog. The newly awarded Australian Champion might be partial to a romp in the garden and fetching sticks, but on weekends, he transforms into a show dog. Zoli, a Welsh Springer Spaniel, is now an Australian Champion...

Varroa mite has been detected in hives located in almond orchards at Balranald and Euston in southern New South Wales. The finds bring the total infested NSW premises to 250.

Fishing on the banks of the Gunbower Creek with just the sound of the birds chirping and not a care in the world ... That was just one of the activities on offer for the attendees of the 3-day Challenge Cohuna Camp on the weekend ... Attendees were children and/or siblings of children receiving treatment for cancer.
