Vietnam Veterans’ Day – 18 August 2024 – Alan Cooke
Alan Cooke worked as an earth moving contractor in Cohuna when he was called up for National Service in April 1966. The 20-year-old had no idea where Vietnam was and didn’t think he’d actually go, but by the time he was discharged in 1968, he had spent 285 days there as a Sapper in the 1st Field Squadron of the Royal Australian Engineers.

Bronze for Patterson
Eleanor Patterson, Cohuna’s adopted Olympian, won bronze in the women’s high jump on Monday morning (our time) and with fellow high jumper Nicola Olyslagers, made Australian Olympic history. Patterson jumped a season best of 1.95m, placing equal third.
Treacy 50 for Freo
Josh Treacy has notched up his 50th game with the Fremantle Dockers in style and continues to make a name for himself in the AFL world – and put Cohuna on the map. Dubbed the Big Cohuna, the 21-year-old from Cohuna has amassed 50 games and 57 goals in his four seasons with the Dockers.
