Racing towards another successful season in 2023
Not even jet lag ... could distract Grafton’s busiest and most determined eight-year-old from putting her foot down and kick-starting her 2023 racing season with three podium finishes earlier this month ... After finishing third in both races in her Stock Polaris RZR 200, Ruby decided to drive her Polaris Off-Road RZR 570 to familiarise herself with her new vehicle under race conditions in the Endurance Race, and was happy to cross the finish line in second place.
Local students flying high after special visit
Not even the 6.5 tonne of downwash could wipe the exuberant smiles off the faces of staff and students at Grafton Public School last week when the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter touched down in the playground on February 27. The visit was organised through Westpac’s Schools Program, which promotes safety and education through interactive experiences with the helicopter and its crew members.
Optus outrage following major outage
For more than a week, Optus customers in Copmanhurst, Whiteman Creek, Jackadgery and surrounding areas were unable to make, send, or receive phone calls or text messages, after the network experienced a major outage due to a hardware fault in a nearby tower. Between February 13 and 21, hundreds of people experienced disruptions to their services while the telecommunications giant addressed the problem, with many venting their frustrations on social media.
Mateship makes a splash on the Clarence River
Affectionately known as Dad’s Army, Peter Mears, Nick Reeve, John Higham, and Ken Maughan, are a familiar sight on the Clarence River each week ... And while they will tell you rowing is physically demanding for any athlete, regardless of their age, it’s also one of the reasons why this enthusiastic group of Clarence Valley octogenarians so readily participate in the sport.
Super way to light community interaction
A vibrant and decorative space has been created in Grafton’s Market Square as part of Clarence Valley Council’s (CVC) Rediscover Grafton project ... Between 6-11pm each night, attendees are welcome to bring their picnic blankets and deck chairs into Market Square and lie or sit below a pair of entwined trees, and engage with the extraordinary experience.
Sporting good night to celebrate local talent
A momentous celebration of the outstanding accolades achieved by our most talented athletes, sports clubs, and local sports personnel; the 2022 Clarence Valley Sports Awards drew a large crowd to the Grafton District Services Club (GDSC) on February 11 ... an initiative of the Clarence Valley Sports Councils, and showcases the immense strength and skills of the local sporting community, and the dedicated locals who continuously support it.

Gold Coast rowers experience the oarsome Clarence River
More than 80 rowers from The Southport School (TSS) on the Gold Coast recently made waves on the Clarence River in Grafton. Between January 18-23, the boys, aged from 13 to 18, trained along a 20km stretch of water in their respective age groups in preparation for the upcoming 2023 Brisbane Grammar School Regatta on January 28, and the 2023 GPS Head of the River Rowing Championships on March 11.
