Little Desert fire continues
Emergency crews have now contained the Little Desert fires that started almost two weeks ago. The fires were ignited by dry lightning on 27 January and ended up burning 95,000 hectares in the Little Desert region so far.

Council applies for funding to create more housing options
West Wimmera Shire Council is taking proactive steps to address the critical housing shortage across the region. Council is applying for $5 million from the State Government’s Regional Worker Accommodation Fund – Round 2.

Hindmarsh Shire Australia Day Awards 2025
Australia Day started early in Hindmarsh Shire on Sunday 26 January 2025, commencing with a BBQ breakfast in Rainbow at 7:30am provided by the Rainbow Lions Club, followed by ceremonies in Jeparit, Dimboola, and concluding in Nhill ... Bailee White of Nhill has been announced as the recipient of Hindmarsh Shire Young Citizen of the Year for 2025.
Representative cricket
Earlier in the month, Jack Dodds and Lenny Shurdington represented the West Wimmera Warriors and played in the U13 HCA side at Country Week in Portland. The team won 3 of their 5 games, with narrow losses to the two Warrnambool teams.
Quirky Nhill
Nhill has just made the 100 BEST SMALL TOWNS IN AUSTRALIA list published in a cover story in the Sunday Paper’s ESCAPE MAGAZINE. Nhill comes in at number 98 under the heading of QUIRKY. It’s quirky because you can play the largest collection of pinball machines in the country at the Australian Pinball Museum.

Disappointing start to 2025 for local racing team, Kermit Racing
After much anticipation, preparation and travelling more than ten hours to One Raceway near Goulburn in NSW, Kermit Racing’s weekend finished just 5 hours after the race start. Kermit Racing’s driver team for this event was Graeme Ussing, David Morrison, Paul Newcombe and Brady Newcombe.
