Earlier in the month, Jack Dodds and Lenny Shurdington represented the West Wimmera Warriors and played in the U13 HCA side at Country Week in Portland. The team won 3 of their 5 games, with narrow losses to the two Warrnambool teams.

Nhill has just made the 100 BEST SMALL TOWNS IN AUSTRALIA list published in a cover story in the Sunday Paper’s ESCAPE MAGAZINE. Nhill comes in at number 98 under the heading of QUIRKY. It’s quirky because you can play the largest collection of pinball machines in the country at the Australian Pinball Museum.

Disappointing start to 2025 for local racing team, Kermit Racing
After much anticipation, preparation and travelling more than ten hours to One Raceway near Goulburn in NSW, Kermit Racing’s weekend finished just 5 hours after the race start. Kermit Racing’s driver team for this event was Graeme Ussing, David Morrison, Paul Newcombe and Brady Newcombe.
A harvest season of mixed results in Nhill, Kaniva and surrounding districts
The harvest season in Nhill, Kaniva, and the district brought a mixed bag of results for farmers. While some crops exceeded expectations, others underperformed, reflecting the challenges posed by the season’s dry conditions. Kaniva farmer Brett Jewell commented, "It certainly has been interesting, with some crops yielding better than expected and others worse.
West Wimmera Australia Day awards
Kaniva resident Kaye Bothe is West Wimmera Shire’s Australia Day Citizen of the Year. The award will be presented to Mrs Bothe at Kaniva’s Australia Day celebrations on Sunday, January 26.

Strengthening Hindmarsh Holiday Parks
In September 2024, Hindmarsh Shire Council resumed management of the Nhill Holiday Park, bringing operation of all four parks across the Shire back in-house, as well as Four Mile Beach Camping area ... Hindmarsh Holiday Parks play a crucial role in the Shire’s tourism and economic development strategy, driving increased visitation and longer stays in our region.
Community support for pothole campaign
Victorians are being encouraged to highlight the worst potholes in the state through a new competition to put more pressure on the Allan Labor Government to fix our appalling roads. The Nationals and Liberals are running a statewide photo competition, with the worst potholes to feature in a 2025 "Potholes for All Seasons" calendar…
Georgia Foster strikes gold in New Zealand!
Local star athlete Georgia Foster has sprinted her way to an incredible triumph at the Colgate North Island Games in New Zealand, bringing home not one, not two, but three gold medals! Competing in the Under 15 category, Georgia dominated the track, taking first place in both the 100m and 200m, and delivering a stellar performance as the anchor for the victorious 4x100m female relay team.
