The Cambooya Australia Day committee landed a bull’s-eye when it selected hard-working Cambooya Rural Fire Brigade volunteer John Archer as the Citizen of the Year. Marking 236 years since the European colonisation of Australia began, last Friday, 26 January, residents of Cambooya and surrounds attended the local Australia Day event.

Toowoomba most expensive for fuel

Toowoomba topped the RACQ’s list of most expensive regional centres for fuel in 2023. RACQ’s analysis revealed eight out of the ten largest regional centres posted record high average unleaded prices for 2023. Toowoomba emerged as the most expensive, charging 187 cents per litre (cpl).

58 new intern doctors commencing

Darling Downs Health hospitals will have 58 medical interns begin this month, marking the largest cohort of interns that have started since the program commenced. The 12-month graduate program will see the medical interns experience the demands of urban, rural and remote medicine.

Water security high on council agenda

Last week, Toowoomba Regional Council resolved to investigate two key water security measures for the region. At Tuesday’s Ordinary Meeting, Council resolved to investigate the possibility of increasing water capacity of Cressbrook Dam as part of the critical Dam Safety Improvement Project as well as supporting a comprehensive investigation of the potential Emu Creek Dam by the Queensland State Government.

Allora Heritage Weekend has engines humming

Goldfish racing returns

Last year the memory of Sophie Grace Patch was felt at the Get Chopped Pub in Greenmount through the holding of a goldfish racing event, which will again happen this year on Australia Day. Sophie, daughter of Todd and Tamara Patch of East Greenmount, tragically passed away in November 2022 at the young age of 11 months.
