People power: Big crowd for Q&A event

Chris Oldfield. Winding up last week’s Q&A event “by popular demand” in the Town Hall, esteemed local MC Glen Hamlyn acknowledged the two mayoral and 11 Naracoorte Lucindale Council (NLC) candidates as “fantastic”. He turned to the crowd of almost 200 people and said they had “a very difficult task of choosing the top 10 candidates out of this group”.

Naracoorte Eisteddfod

Erica Boyington, Meredith Schinckel. August 12 and 13th saw fifteen young Naracoorte musicians travel plus one adult musician travel to Mt Gambier to compete in the music division of the Eisteddfod, held at Wehl Street theatre. An Eisteddfod is a wonderful opportunity for budding musicians to gain practice and confidence with performing, while benefitting from expert feedback.

State Government called to investigate medical hub secrecy

Trixi Oldfield. An angered group of Tatiara residents has called on the State Government to investigate Tatiara District Council’s “veil of secrecy” surrounding Bordertown’s proposed new medical hub. Des Murray, Peter Grosser, Bryan Paech and John O’Brien, have written to Local Government Minister, Geoff Brock, asking him to “look into” council’s lack of consultation particularly about “the use of community land purchased to develop medical amenities”.

Prestigious award for Patrick Ross

Chris Oldfield. A high-ranking and prestigious SA Country Fire Service (CFS) award has been bestowed on Lucindale group officer Patrick Ross by State Chief Officer Mark Jones. The rare Chief Officer’s Commendation was awarded for Mr Ross’s leadership, decision making and keeping a cool head during critical emergency situations, while under intense pressure.

Service recognised with medals and clasps

Chris Oldfield. A medal reflecting 60 years of incredible service has been awarded to our distinguished CFS member and author, Rex Hall. Since the launch of his successful book, Forty Flaming Years, in 2007, Mr Hall has penned three more. Mr Hall, one of Naracoorte’s favourite icons, was also a major force behind the town’s SA Volunteer Fire Fighters Museum.

Ag Speak – Rethinking the shearing team

A new approach to managing shearing teams is paying dividends in the Mid North of the state and helping address the skills shortage which is being felt by the entire livestock industry. When Sarah-Jane Abley’s shearing team steps onto the boards of shearing sheds around South Australia, out goes any hierarchy and instead the team just gets to work.

Chris Oldfield. A question and answer forum will be held in the Naracoorte Town Hall ... Candidates in the upcoming council election will be available to answer questions from the audience...
