Right now, Allora’s Wikner Ford Special is on the highway heading south to Maroubra – not to surf but to be a headline act at huge celebrations.
Proud owner Doug Partington and his son Bruce, along with the Wikner, will be greeted on Saturday by members of the Vintage Sports Car Club of Australia.
The Club is celebrating the Centenary of the opening event at the infamous Maroubra Olympic Speedway in 1925. Of that initial event only one racing car remains as it raced that day, Doug’s Wikner Ford Special.
Maroubra Speedway was intended to be Australia’s Indianapolis but due to errors in design it became known as the “Killer TRACK” closing in the early 1930’s. It is now a thriving Sydney beach suburb. Allora’s Wikner Ford Special will be the guest of honour at the Celebration to be held in Coral Sea Park an area within the boundaries of the original Speedway. Doug suggests that his car is the only car to have lapped both Maroubra and Indianapolis Speedways!
After the celebrations Doug and Bruce will bring the Wikner home to take up residence in the soon to be established glass pavilion at the Allora Sports Museum.
